Walter Pall's main blog about bonsai and his work with trees from day to day. Lots of good pictures of good trees and lots of valuable information about bonsai.
He's applying his "hedge pruning method" and this is the second flush of the season: flush>harden off>prune>repeat. Not quite defoliation, more like an improved, horticulturally correct way of achieving the same/better results while maintaining and improving tree health as full defoliation over time can be very detrimental. Google search 'Walter pall hedge pruning' to find the article, it's a great one.
Walter, you are an innovator and have so much to give the bonsai community, a response of "sure" is not doing the art form it's justice! You're better then that.

Why a "second flush"? Are you defoliating?
